Year 1 & 2

Programme delivery

  • 6-Week block in Term 1 
  • 6-Week block in Term 4
  • Re-register for each term.
  • Skill development: balance, jump & land, catch, pass, move, shoot. 

Grades available

  • Learn to play (very first touches)
  • Developing (had experienced the programme before)
  • Good understanding (can catch, pass, move) 

Schools to provide

  • Star Helper (one per team)
  • First aid kit (including plasters)

Facilitators

  • Netball Hutt Valley Junior Coordinators work with a number of Star Helpers & Teams
  • Star Helpers lead the skill development & game play for their team in partner with their opposition 
  • NHV supplies balls, bibs, cones etc. for participation in the programme.

Format

  • Group Netball Smart Warm Up
  • Group skill demonstration
  • Teams break off to courts to practise the skills (up to two per day)
  • Game play (2x 8 minute halves)
  • 4v4: four players from each team on the court at any one time. Remainder of players can be subbed on. 
  • No bibs required
  • Total programme time of 45 - 50 minutes.

Year 3 & 4

    Year 5 & 6

    League delivery

    • 3 Grading days (2x 2x8 minute half games per day)
    • Round 1: 5 games
    • Round 2: 5 games

    • Year 5 only
    • Year 6 only
    • Year 5&6 combined

    • Coach
    • Umpire
    • Bibs (GS, GA, WA, C, GD, GK)
    • Ball (Size 4)
    • First aid kit (including plasters)

    Format

    • Warm up (completed before game time)
    • Game play (4x 8 minute quarters)
    • 6v6: GS, GA, WA, C, GD, GK
    • Played over a full court
    • Lower hoops 2.4m 
    • Size 4 ball 

    Rules

    • Umpires are introduced at the year 5&6 game
    • Focus on: contact, obstruction, throw ins.
    • Introduce the ideas of held ball (up to 5 seconds), footwork, over a third etc. 
    • Umpires are to work with players to understand the rules i.e. first off try talking to the player before penalising/ standing down - give the player an opportunity to understand what is required. 

    Year 7 & 8

    League delivery

    • 3 Grading days (2x 2x10 minute half games per day)
    • Round 1: 5 games
    • Round 2: 5 games
    • Challenge match: top two school teams from intermediate 1 will play off for the cup at the senior finals day (22 August). 

    Grades available

    • Section 1 (good ability) to section 14 (learning the game & fundamental skills)

    Teams to provide

    • Coach
    • Umpire
    • Bibs (GS, GA, WA, C, WD, GD, GK)
    • Ball (size 5)
    • First aid kit (including plasters)

    Format

    • Warm up (completed before game time)
    • Game play (4x 10 minute quarters)
    • 7v7: GS, GA, WA, C, WD, GD, GK
    • Played over a full court
    • Full height hoop
    • Size 5 ball
